Dr. Kent L. Gilpin
DR. KENT GILPIN, 1/18/24, MEDICAL EXAMINER FINDS "DECEASED NEIGHBOR" WITH H/RATE OF 16/18 BPM.

HAVING PURCHASED A "CONTEC PM10, PORTABLE ECG. UNIT" ON AN IMPULSE 4 OR MORE MOS. AGO. I CHARGED IT AND TOSSED THE SMALL UNIT INTO MY FIELD KIT, WHERE IT REMAINED IN THE TRUNK OF MY VEHICLE. 2 NIGHTS AGO I RESPONDED TO A FRANTIC KNOCKING AT OUR FRONT DOOR, A NEIGHBOR HAD FOUND HER HUSBAND "DECEASED/UNRESPONSIVE" IN BED AROUND 2.45 AM. DRESSED IN MY ROBE I WENT TO CALM HER AND VERIFY HER HUSBANDS STATUS. NOTING, A SLIGHTLY DIMINISHED BODY TEMP. AND UNDETECTABLE PULSE AND NO VISIBLE BREATHING UPON INITIAL ASSESSMENT. I PLACED THE COMPACT UNIT AGAINST HIS CHEST AND FOUND THIS PATIENT IN DEEP COMA, WITH INITIAL ELECTRICAL CARDIAC TRACING (COLOR OF TRACING CHANGES TO GREEN!!! IN ECG WINDOW) AND INDICATED H/R 16 TO 18 BPM's. EMS AND FIRE INITIATED AND MY NEIGHBOR RESPONDED TO EMERGENCY INTERVENTIONS MORE FAVORABLY THAN I HAD EXPECTED. HE REMAINS IN CCU AT THE TIME OF THIS WRITING. MY ONLY ISSUE IS THAT MY SMALL PM 10 DEVICE DOESN'T WANT TO HOLD A BATTERY RECHARGE AS LONG AS IT SHOULD. I AM CARRYING A SECOND BATTERY PACK & A POWER CORD AS WELL. I HAVE TAUGHT EMERGENCY MEDICAL PROCEDURES SINCE 1973 M.D.J.C. IN MIAMI. AS A YOUNG POLICE OFFICER AND FIREFIGHTER I WOULD NEVER HAVE DREAMED WE WOULD HAVE A SMALL DEVICE IN OUR HAND THAT WOULD FUNCTION SO VERY WELL. I HOPE MY REPORTING THIS EVENT WILL PROVE BENEFICIAL . MAY GOD BLESS YOU. SIGNED, DR. KENT L. GILPIN, MIAMI FL.
